Warm November Days

Don't you just love it when the cold months surprise you and in between those freezing cold days there is a surprising burst of sunlight and warmth. On this particular November day I woke up to do my typical weather app check and was shocked to see the temperature 65 degrees appear on the screen. Although I'm from Michigan, I actually hate the cold. I'm constantly freezing due to a lack of warm clothing plus being anemic like many other females my age. In lieu of the warm weather, I decided to pull  out this "galaxy" type dress that I haven't be able to wear from Romwe and pair it with my new creepers from Nasty Gal. I love shopping on Romwe, but sometimes it takes items forever to come since i'm in the US.
It's so crazy to think that its already the end of November. Where has the time gone? It was just the beginning of the school semester and I was taking my first test in each class and now finals are in a week, ahhhhhhhh. I have to get my life tougher in a matter of 2 weeks. Is that even possible lol? But the great thing about that is this means i'll be home for break in 2 weeks, which means a whole month without school. I have so many things that I want to do over break that I haven't had time to do over the school year. Keep checking in for some changes to come on the blog during that time.

Howard University Homecoming Fashion Show 2013

As promised, here is a snippet of the Homecoming Fashion Show that I was a part of. The vision was created by Alexander Julian Gibson, a student from Houston, Texas. I was a part of the team that helped to execute this vision serving as the assistant coordinator. The show was entitled, Tempus: Eden to Exodus as the fashion show tells the story of time through the Bible transition from Genesis in the Garden of Eden all the way to the destruction found in Revelations. To display this transition, the setting of the show began with various greenery, trees, and floral dresses by designer Chasity Sereal to symbolize the Garden of Eden setting and transitioned through time. A LCD screen the size of your average concert screen added an extra visual affect flashing hd images that accompanied the time setting including the designers name along with the large columns aligning the back of the stage. The music set the atmosphere as well featuring selections mainly from "Yeezus" and "Magna Carta Holy Grail". One of my favorite designers of the night was Cherry Veric traveling all the way from the Philippines to grace us with his beautiful evening gowns and stunning body suit complete with an amazing accompanying coverup. The show was closed by one of our amazing models gliding down the runway in a beautiful white gown and 10 lb Victoria Secret-esq wings. I would have to say overall that one of my favorite parts of the show was being able to work with the beautiful ballet dancers of the Kirov Ballet Academy right here in DC. The dancers were so young and talented and the dance academy did such a wonderful job creating the vision that we wanted to pull the show together. I loved working with this show and being able to work one on one with the designers. It was such an amazing experience being a part of a show that was said to bring real fashion back to Howard fashion shows hopefully for years to come. I hope you all enjoy the photos, I'm hoping to find more detailed shots, but these are from hureaction, http://prosperphotography.tumblr.com/, and focus point media.

Howard Homecoming

Is homecoming a major event at anyone else's school? At Howard University, homecoming is known as the event of the year. People come from near and far to enjoy the festivities that homecoming brings. Howard is known for having some of the most fashionably dressed students, but during homecoming, students' and visitors' fashion choices escalate to a whole different level. Think about  the most fashionable, different, or cool outfit that you own; that's what you would wear if you were attending homecoming. Events such as Yardfest and the Fashion Show are some of the major events that people chose to make a statement with their attire. This year, I didn't have much time to figure out what I was wearing as opposed to past years, but I'm pleased with how the outfit turned out. This blazer is one of my favorite blazers that I own. When it is cool outside, I love velvet and this blazer is made of great velvet fabric and the gold embroidery adds an amazing European affect to the blazer. I chose to pair it with a pair of black velvet shorts, slouchy white blouse, and thigh high black socks to combat the cold weather. When I put on the outfit, I felt like it was missing something so I pulled out my favorite black hat and added it as the final touch on the outfit. I have to share with you all pictures from the Fashion Show this year in my next post that was an amazing success and I'm so happy that I was able to be apart of the production of the show. Look out for those coming soon!
