Chanel takes on the American West in Dallas,Texas

In 1957, Coco Chanel visited Dallas,Texas at the invitation of Stanley Marcus leader of Neiman Marcus and immediately fell in love with the city during the post war times when Paris shunned her. For Chanel's Metiers d'Art fashion show this year, Karl Lagerfeld took inspiration from this trip to create this show at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. Every December for more than a decade, Karl Lagerfeld has picked a city as the theme of the show and Dallas was this years lucky choice. When asked about why he chose this destination he said, "I love Texas. I love Texans. There’s another reason. When Chanel reopened, the French press was beyond nasty. The only press that understood it immediately was the American press, and Neiman Marcus gave her the Oscar for her collection, so I think it’s a nice thing to go there."

This three part spectacular occurring on December 10 featured various celebrities such as Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Alexa Chung, and Zoe Kravitz and hosted over 900 guests. The show was said to be "eccentric, fun, and even cowboy chic". The collection connects with many because of the funky fashions that the many who own country homes and ranches will be sure to want said Becca Cason Thrash. These clothes were the fashion epitome of the American West in true form.

Below are some of my favorite looks from the show. I love Native American inspired fashions so many of the looks from this show fit directly with that love. Hope you enjoy.

'Mad for Plaid'

If you've read my past posts from the fall, you know I love plaid. These pants are some of my favorites and were also featured in my ready to wear fall attire post. This tartan pattern is so popular this fall and winter season and it's hilarious to me because in high school, my catholic school uniform skirt was this exact same print and looked exactly like many of the tartan skirts that are being sold by various retailers. But nonetheless, I love this pattern along with many of the other plaids that were featured in various designers f/w collections. Another thing about this outfit that I loved was this blazer that I found at my job because I love emerald. Its such a great fall and winter color and compliments many different skin complexions.
Its already December, can you believe it? I'm beyond happy because i'm finally done with all of my finals and am headed home for winter break. A whole month of rest and relaxation, what more could a girl as for after such a stressful semester. Hopefully I can accomplish all of the goals that I have set for myself to do while i'm at home, including making some changes to my blog so look out for those =)

Warm November Days

Don't you just love it when the cold months surprise you and in between those freezing cold days there is a surprising burst of sunlight and warmth. On this particular November day I woke up to do my typical weather app check and was shocked to see the temperature 65 degrees appear on the screen. Although I'm from Michigan, I actually hate the cold. I'm constantly freezing due to a lack of warm clothing plus being anemic like many other females my age. In lieu of the warm weather, I decided to pull  out this "galaxy" type dress that I haven't be able to wear from Romwe and pair it with my new creepers from Nasty Gal. I love shopping on Romwe, but sometimes it takes items forever to come since i'm in the US.
It's so crazy to think that its already the end of November. Where has the time gone? It was just the beginning of the school semester and I was taking my first test in each class and now finals are in a week, ahhhhhhhh. I have to get my life tougher in a matter of 2 weeks. Is that even possible lol? But the great thing about that is this means i'll be home for break in 2 weeks, which means a whole month without school. I have so many things that I want to do over break that I haven't had time to do over the school year. Keep checking in for some changes to come on the blog during that time.

Howard University Homecoming Fashion Show 2013

As promised, here is a snippet of the Homecoming Fashion Show that I was a part of. The vision was created by Alexander Julian Gibson, a student from Houston, Texas. I was a part of the team that helped to execute this vision serving as the assistant coordinator. The show was entitled, Tempus: Eden to Exodus as the fashion show tells the story of time through the Bible transition from Genesis in the Garden of Eden all the way to the destruction found in Revelations. To display this transition, the setting of the show began with various greenery, trees, and floral dresses by designer Chasity Sereal to symbolize the Garden of Eden setting and transitioned through time. A LCD screen the size of your average concert screen added an extra visual affect flashing hd images that accompanied the time setting including the designers name along with the large columns aligning the back of the stage. The music set the atmosphere as well featuring selections mainly from "Yeezus" and "Magna Carta Holy Grail". One of my favorite designers of the night was Cherry Veric traveling all the way from the Philippines to grace us with his beautiful evening gowns and stunning body suit complete with an amazing accompanying coverup. The show was closed by one of our amazing models gliding down the runway in a beautiful white gown and 10 lb Victoria Secret-esq wings. I would have to say overall that one of my favorite parts of the show was being able to work with the beautiful ballet dancers of the Kirov Ballet Academy right here in DC. The dancers were so young and talented and the dance academy did such a wonderful job creating the vision that we wanted to pull the show together. I loved working with this show and being able to work one on one with the designers. It was such an amazing experience being a part of a show that was said to bring real fashion back to Howard fashion shows hopefully for years to come. I hope you all enjoy the photos, I'm hoping to find more detailed shots, but these are from hureaction, http://prosperphotography.tumblr.com/, and focus point media.

Howard Homecoming

Is homecoming a major event at anyone else's school? At Howard University, homecoming is known as the event of the year. People come from near and far to enjoy the festivities that homecoming brings. Howard is known for having some of the most fashionably dressed students, but during homecoming, students' and visitors' fashion choices escalate to a whole different level. Think about  the most fashionable, different, or cool outfit that you own; that's what you would wear if you were attending homecoming. Events such as Yardfest and the Fashion Show are some of the major events that people chose to make a statement with their attire. This year, I didn't have much time to figure out what I was wearing as opposed to past years, but I'm pleased with how the outfit turned out. This blazer is one of my favorite blazers that I own. When it is cool outside, I love velvet and this blazer is made of great velvet fabric and the gold embroidery adds an amazing European affect to the blazer. I chose to pair it with a pair of black velvet shorts, slouchy white blouse, and thigh high black socks to combat the cold weather. When I put on the outfit, I felt like it was missing something so I pulled out my favorite black hat and added it as the final touch on the outfit. I have to share with you all pictures from the Fashion Show this year in my next post that was an amazing success and I'm so happy that I was able to be apart of the production of the show. Look out for those coming soon!

Return of the Huxtables

Denise Huxtable.  Do any of you watch the Cosby Show? Well if you aren't familiar with it, the show is centered around the Huxtable family (mother, father, 1 son, and 4 daughters) and their daily lives as the children grow up and go through the many obstacles of life. Denise Huxtable was one of the daughters in the house and she was known for being the free spirited one that constantly wore large clothing, hats, side braids, and had a cool boho look. I didn't compare my style to hers, but while on campus I was told that I was very Denise like on this particular day.
This was the first chilly day that I experienced so I thought I would throw on my large sweater and pair it with these blue pants to have a more androgynous feel to my outfit. I have a hat obsession but unfortunately when moving this past summer, I lost my entire hat collection. So now I'm working to rebuild it starting with this black wide brim hat. Hopefully by the end of the winter I'll have a new revamped collection, but I'll be sure to show them off as I acquire them. Whats your favorite winter accessory?

A Classic Touch of Plaid

Fall oh Fall. As I said in my fall trends post that I loveee plaid, its one of the classic prints that I was speaking of. I'm getting into the feel of fall although its beginning to go back and forth between being warm, raining, or freezing cold in DC currently. Although I was looking forward to the fall, this is not exactly what I was expecting. Fall clothing is some of my favorite because of the layers that you can create with each outfit that your wearing. Your blazer can contrast your shirt which you can make work with a skirt and a cool pair of tights, the options are endless. But my love for fall has recently been cut short from the condition its putting me in. From horrible allergies to feeling like a cold is coming on, I hate the sickness that the initial beginning of fall always seems to bring me. Hopefully my body gets acclimated with the weather soon. This outfit was a pretty basic throw together. I just chose to put on this blazer that I bought at my job along with some of my favorite h&m pants, and another pair of my infamous fall and winter booties. I love my job because at the store its not only new clothing but also consignment as well so you never know what cool finds will come into the store. There are a few pieces that I've found in the store that I'm excited to show you all soon.

The Classic Brick Wall

Red&Black I love the color combo red and black. Its just something about it that has a plain and simple crispness that I enjoy. I have something to admit about this outfit that I'm wearing. The peplum shirt that I'm wearing, I'm actually wearing it backwards. Yes, backwards, I know, weird right? But for some reason,  I just wanted to switch it up and when I looked at the shirt, I thought hmmm from the front this is a plain cute peplum, but when you wear it backwards, it gets a chic look because of the black and the zipper. I don't think anyone really noticed that it was backwards until I chose to tell certain people. You guys want to know another reason why I'm excited for the fall, its the return of my disco pants! Anyone who knows me knows that my American Apparel Disco pants are definitely one of my favorite pairs of pants that I own, along with my easy jeans. I think that the disco pants as well as the easy jeans are super cute bottoms that you can easily throw on with various clothing articles to create cute and simple outfit and they show off your figure perfectly. This fall I may invest in more colors of both the easy jeans and disco pants, but we'll see.

Fall 2013 Fashion Trends

Fall is my absolute favorite season. I love the transition from shorts and tanks to blazers and printed pants. The change in the air, the colors of the leaves, and the colors of the fashion all draw me in. I've chosen to highlight some of my favorite fashion trends for this fall but there are definitely many more. There is such a versatility in the clothing that one can wear in the fall and you can create such great looks that include numerous layers of clothing. What are your favorite trends this fall?

The Calm Before the Storm

School Days. I literally love my school. As much as I hate a lot of the teachers, the administration at times, and some other little things, I have a general love for my school. I love that I am able to dress however I want and as creatively as I want without looking weird or like I'm doing too much. How I dress is literally my outlet for all creativity. When I was younger, I loved to draw potential outfits. Of course back then everything matched like if I had a star on the shirt, I added the same star to the shoes I had my model wearing. But, I'm able to express how I feel through my clothing mixing and matching things as I see fit.
On this particular day, I was as usual stumped at what to wear in the morning. Then I realized that I had never worn this particular top. This shirt was actually a dress that I found on one of my many thrift store trips, but of course I didn't like how it originally was made so I made some minor alterations. Also from the extra material that I had from the alterations, I created a little headband that has been worn in a previous post. Altering things from the thrift store is so fun for me and there are a few items that I'll be posting this season that I've altered so I'll be sure to point them out. Hope you all are enjoying the changing of the seasons, I know I am.

It's Beginning to Feel Like Fall

Ahhhhh Fall is here. It can be felt in the change of temperature, seen as many throw on light jackets, and experienced as I have terrible allergies. I absolutely love the fall, its my favorite season. I love the fashion of the fall as we transition from crop tops and shorts, to light jackets and printed pants. The changing of leaves and the changing of colors in wardrobes to deep and vivid oxbloods, emeralds, and greys.  I don't know why I can't stop my life from being continuously busy and chaotic. I just finished a major performance on Sunday and now I must balance school, work, and our homecoming fashion show. In my last post, I told you all I would be switching my hair again, so yes I'm back to the long hair. The short hair was fun but it's more so a summer look, I love my long curls.
This posts outfit was really random, it was somewhat inspired by one of my line sisters. She has the coolest vintage wardrobe full of oversize thrifted blazers, vests, and cool brooches. I'll definitely have to do a feature on her soon. Thus when getting dressed on this particular day, I threw together a fully thrifted outfit and paired it with booties. You'll see throughout the fall season that I truly love booties and I'm looking to add more to my shoe collection. Can't wait to show you all the newest fall trends!

As Summer Fades Away

Is it September already? It's so crazy how fast time flies in my life. It feels like just a minute ago it was the middle of the summer and now I'm back in school mode. My first 2 years of school went by in literally the blink of an eye and I'm so excited to see all that this junior year holds for me.  I already know that things will be great between being a new member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, my new job, working for our homecoming fashion show, and my other obligations. The weather in DC is so unpredictable. One moment it will be super hot and the next minute you could need a light jacket. On this particular day, the weather was a little breezy so I chose to throw on one of my favorite short suits. The weird part about this outfit is that I actually bought these shorts and this blazer at 2 separate times not even realizing that they were a set but I sure am glad that I did. I wish I took a closer picture of my blouse so you all could get the true effect of how cool the plaid is in this thrift store find. I can't wait for the weather to begin cooling down because I absolutely love fall clothing. In honor of the changing seasons, I will have changing hair again soon so look out.

A Feminine Touch: The Short Suit

So as promised I tried something new with my hair! Since it is the summer time, I thought that going with a cut and color would be most appropriate. After much search and debate, I decided to go with a slight bob cut with a inspiration from the singer, Ciara and went for brown/reddish highlights throughout my hair for that summertime pop of color. I have a few more days at home =(, but the countdown is now on for moving into my new apartment! As many of you know, I loveee thrifting and this short suit is one of my recent thrift store finds. The funky print as well as the buttons on the suit made it irresistible to buy (closeup details can be seen in below photos). I debated on if I wanted to wear it together as as 2 piece outfit or just wear each piece as separates, but I decided to just go for it and wear the set together and I love the look. I chose to pair it with my bright yellow flats to keep up the bright colors. I'm currently searching for places to purchase more bright colored flats so if anyone has any suggestions let me know! This outfit is the perfect bright pattern and light material for a summertime short suit set. I have to keep my eyes open for some more similar finds in the future. Hope you enjoy!

'Summertime Fine'

It's so nice to be home. Something about being here just makes me feel refreshed and the sunny weather makes me want to crack out all my bright colors, hence today's outfit. I've always thought the colors magenta and bright evergreen green look great together so I thought I would put them together to create this outfit. The scarf that was used to create this headband is actually extra fabric that I had from turning a thrift store dress into a cool shirt. I love to keep the extra fabric from any item I renovate because you never know when you can use it for something else. I wish I had a closer shot of the earrings I had on, but I really love them. I always stop in Aldo Accessories to see if there is any new cool jewelry that I can add to my collection and these funky earrings were perfect with there square shape and cool design. I plan on doing something different with my hair veryyy soon, so I chose to wear my hair in a ponytail before I go with a shorter cut. Hope you all enjoy!

A Splash of Color

Home sweet home. I'm back in Michigan for a couple weeks of the summer so that I can relax and just enjoy being around my friends and family. I'm finally done with summer school and can say that have successfully completed all accounting classes that I will ever force myself to take. I love the summer when the weather is not too hot. The weather right now in Michigan is kind of iffy, but today was a great day. It was definitely hot, but it also allowed me to wear this outfit. Anyone who knows me, knows that I loveeee Nasty Gal. Both this multicolored leotard and skirt with the numerical and symbol print are items bought on nastygal.com. I love leotards; they are fun pieces to add to your wardrobe that can be worn with an assortment of things. I chose to pair my bright yellow flats with this outfit to keep up the bright colors of the outfit. I want to invest in more colored flats because I think that they help to add the pop of color that is needed with many outfits. If you haven't already, be sure to check out Nasty Gal!

Flower Girl

It was a beautiful day in DC so my friend Jessica and I decided to travel to Georgetown to explore and enjoy the Taste of Georgetown events. I've had this flower headband for about a year now and have never found the right opportunity to wear it, but I decided I finally just had to wear it. I chose to pair it with a simple piece so the headband could be the focus of my outfit so I went for my favorite black skater dress from American Apparel. One thing that I love about American Apparel is the fact that people of all sizes can wear their clothing and it still be flattering on them. Also, their basic and simple pieces work great in every outfit and many of the pieces don't go out of style. The nylon material on this dress makes it great for hot summer days as well. My summer classes are halfway done, just 3 more weeks to go and I can finally get a little rest! Hope everyone is enjoying their summers.

Back to Blogging Day 5

Last day of the Back to Blogging Series, Day 5! I decided to go with a more business casual look for this day because of some stops that I had to make throughout the day. I love thrifting and had the opportunity to go thrifting while I was home with one of my friends which was great and I found some cool items, one of which is this blouse. For all those who don't know, yellow is my absolute favorite color. Its just so bright and cheery and just makes me happy which is why I love these pumps. Also, the mid height heels makes them comfortable enough to wear throughout the day. You can also see my light yellow accent in my earrings to compliment these shoes. I enjoyed being home and was actually sad to have this last shoot, but I'll be back soon enough for another short amount of time.

Back to Blogging Day 4

Im here! Sorry for not finishing my back to blogging days in the 5 days specified, I had unexpected technical difficulties but I'm back in action to post the final 2 days! Day 4 of my Back to Blogging series was a more casual look. I absolutely love boyfriend jeans because they can be cute but still have the comfort and slouchy androgynous feel that I love. I chose to pair this look with a Marilyn Monroe tank and sandal heels to add a feminine touch to the boyfriend jeans. I topped off this look with the red bag just as an extra accent. This was a great day for the weather in Michigan, which you can probably tell from the beautiful sunlight in these photos. I'm back in DC now and will soon be showing off the outfits that I'm sporting to accommodate the DC weather.

Back to Blogging Day 3

Finally the weather in MI yesterday was nice enough to wear something that wasn't long sleeves and pants. I'm enjoying being home because everything here is so peaceful and I'm able to relax and spend time with those that I love. Its pretty hard for me to get dressed daily because I only brought a suitcase of clothing home with me while the rest of my clothing is in storage in DC waiting for my arrival back, but i've been able to make due with what I have. For this outfit, I really just threw a few pieces of my wardrobe together. I'm really happy to be blogging again and have just 2 more days left of my 5 day Back to Blogging series, let's pray we can keep this nice weather for my clothings sake!

Back to Blogging Day 2

As a back of my Guess Who's Back: Back to Blogging series, I'm working on presenting a new outfit for everyday of this week (5 consecutive days total). It was another cooler day in Michigan yesterday so I had to make due to try to put together an outfit that was both summer time cool, but would still keep me warm. Luckily, the sun chose to come out as we took these photos so I was able to add my sunglasses to the ensemble for an added affect. I loveee wearing clothing from my grandmothers closet and making it into something that is contemporary which is what I chose to do with these pants. It is crazy how fast my week at home is going by. It seems like its only Tuesday but it will be Thursday tomorrow, ahhh. Although I have enjoyed being home, I am looking forward to beginning my summer in DC next week. I hope the weather chooses to warm up for my last few days at home.

Guess Who's Back

I'm Back! Sorry for going on that break out of no where but the end of my school year was sooo busy that I didn't have enough time to dedicate to creating quality blog posts, but I'm back in action. Now that it is the summer, I am still busy but am finalllyyy able to create the time to blog. Right now, I'm at home for a week so that I can spend time with my family as well as get a little rest before I head back to DC on Sunday. This summer will definitely be interesting for me so I'll be sure to keep my blog up to date with outfit of the day posts as well as posts about summer fashions, inspirations, as well as my summer adventures. Unfortunately when I arrived home the weather wasn't so great so I had to come up with a not so summer time outfit choice so I tried to incorporate summer in the outfit with bright colors. Hope you enjoy!

Fall 2013 Milan Fashion Week Wrap Up

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2013 recently passed and I hadn't had the opportunity to post on this occasion so I wanted to create a post just to highlight some of the collections that enjoyed from the week. Also, I wanted to show how powerful street style can be and what a statement someone can make from outside of the actual show. Let me know what you all think!
